Top 3 Tips to Help You Reach ‘Buy Box’ Status with Your Products on Amazon
Research tells us the ‘Buy Box’ is responsible for more than 80% of sales and the top source of those sales are on mobile and desktop devices.
As Amazon Sellers, your primary goal is to achieve sales. For those who don’t allow others to sell their proprietary products and have established Brand Registry for those products, Buy Box status is not as difficult to achieve.
However, if you’re one of the third-party sellers that is competing to sell the same products, the Buy Box is a must if you care to achieve any sales volume. Also, note your Amazon Sponsored Product Ads, Sponsored Brand Ads and Display Ads stop appearing if you don’t have the coveted Buy Box, which further reduces your ability to sell.
Here are three top tips that should get you well on your way to achieve Buy Box status.
Keep your products’ prices competitive:
Pricing is one of the major factors in gaining Buy Box status. If the products you are selling are several pounds/dollars higher than other third-party sellers or Amazon Vendor Sellers and/or the same or similar products to yours on other e-commerce sales channels are less expensive and your products are priced higher than the MSRP, this will very likely exclude you from the Buy Box.
Do your homework. Check what price other Sellers and websites are selling your products, if it’s less and you decide to lower your prices, make sure you’re still making a profit. You may need to look for ways to reduce your own costs; e.g. shipping, warehousing, fulfilment, advertising, etc. to make your product listings more price competitive and still profitable.
Consider FBA over FBM:
Although Amazon states Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) and Fulfilled by Merchant (FBM) are both suitable ways to fulfil your products, we can assure you using FBA will most certainly increase your chances of gaining Buy Box status, while being Prime eligible will help even more.
If you still prefer to Fulfil by Merchant, whether that’s because you have oversized items or simply want to fulfil yourself, make sure you are Prime eligible. There are several steps and a trial period where Amazon will test to ensure your FBM set-up will be suitable to achieve Seller Fulfilled Prime status.
Constantly check your Seller ratings:
Once your trailing 30-day Seller rating falls below 90%, it’s common for Amazon to remove your Buy Box eligibility.
You must keep a close eye on your Seller’s ratings and ensure they are legitimate. Remember, FBA complaints and product related ratings aren’t to be levied against a Seller’s ratings, and can be considered by Amazon, by way of filing a Seller support ticket, to be removed.
Ensuring you have a high Seller’s rating can help to gain Buy Box eligibility.
While there are other factors that help to determine your Buy Box eligibility, the aforementioned three tips will get you well on your way to achieve the Buy Box for your Amazon listed products.
